Why are pediatric dental checkups important?

Routine pediatric dental care is not something that should be brushed off as unimportant. While children lose their baby teeth, children’s teeth cleanings and dental exams help prevent potential issues from occurring and prevent minor problems from developing into major problems. Establishing a dental home for your child from a young age can help them to see the importance of dentistry, which encourages them to continue visiting the dentist regularly even as an adult.

How long do pediatric teeth cleanings take?

Pediatric dental cleanings take between thirty minutes to an hour on average. We pride ourselves on working with our young patients at a pace that they are comfortable with to ease their anxiety, and we explain our dental tools and practices to kids during their appointments, so the length of each visit can vary. If your child is also receiving a fluoride treatment or we diagnose a problem and offer to treat it right away, that can also lengthen the time of a pediatric dental checkup.

What if my child has dental anxiety?

Some of our patients are excited to visit our practice while others are much more apprehensive—and that’s okay! We love working with children wherever they are in their dental journey to provide them with the highest-quality care that we can. We typically recommend that children who experience dental anxiety try dental sedation at least once to see if it helps them remain calm and relaxed. Our kid-friendly sedation helps many patients have a better time in our office. Contact Us
